TopView² started as promotional App - its main feature was the ability to use Virtual Reality to experience the product advantages from client Knauf Gips KG with the highest immersion possible. The user was able to put his phone into a VR-cardboard device (e.g. Samsung Gear or Google Cardboard) or alternatively use a "Display" mode to consume the point of sale (POS) experience through the integrated gyroscope functionality of the mobile phone or tablet.
Later on I developed an update to measure the reverberation time of rooms with the average of five measurements, the user created by clapping or other distinct, loud sounds. After the measurement result the application provides the perfect products and the needed amount of them to decrease the reverberation time to an optimum. Knauf TopView² earned the silver award in the category of "Best Innovation" at the Swiss App Awards 2016.
Challenges were programming the reverberation time algorithm to make the results as precise as possible. Smartphones or Tablets aren't expert devices for measurements like this, because each mobile phone brand comes with a different type of microphone. The app was still able to generate surprisingly precise results, which were compared and approved by the experts from the Knauf Acoustic Measurement's department. In general it was a very interesting experience for me to develop an app like this. After five years in the app stores, Knauf unfortunately decided to stop the investments into the necessary maintenance which came with general OS updates. More key features:
